Ray Dream Designer Gallery - Illustrations II

The following are examples of Ray Dream Designer or Studio being used to create illustrations and logos.

Outnumbered But Not Outmatched (80K JPG)

"This image is an obvious outgrowth of my earlier submission of the robot on the motorcycle. I modified and copied the linked figures over several times to create this group. I was motivated to make this image because of all the Mac-Bashing I was being subjected to at work. Its real title is OUTNUMBERED BUT NOT OUTMATCHED".

"I have just ordered the lens pack and radical effects, so I am excited to use these in my next RayDream project."

BrightBright Red Skin All Over Here Body (68K JPG)
Little TwigLittle Twig (78K JPG)

"I am an illustrator using Ray Dream and Freehand as my principle applications on PC platform. I have been doing computer graphics since my first work on a PDP-8 in 1967. Much of my recent work has been for childrens books. These are two examples:

"Bright red skin all over her body" was created with Ray Dream Designer 4.1 for RAINBOW GIRL, a story about a young girl who inexplicably changes colors.

"Little Twig", also created with RDD 4.1, is the "star" of BIG TWIG, LITTLE TWIG, a work in progress.

More of my Ray Dream images are posted at my Lucky Duck Designs site at: http://www.rpnet.net/~luckyduk . Please visit, and send comments to luckyduk@rpnet.net."

300-ZX (74K JPG)

bball (69K JPG)
fball (80K JPG)
Pyramid (53K JPG)

"I've been working with Macintosh computers since they were first introduced. I've beed using the standard 2D design tools for about the same amount of time. It was only until a few years ago that I got into 3D designing (and since Raydream was not a big investment, I used it). I hope to one day be (paid) to do 3D animation for TV or Movies (using Alias/Wavefront softw on the SGI platform a la T2/Twister/Independence Day). [Actually I'd probably work for food just to get the experience].".

About 300-ZX
"I created this image by importing a Raydream Designer Studio 4.0 rendered image (the 2 logos) into Photoshop 3.0 where it composited with the background (created with Illustrator and Photoshop). This art was used for a video cover (and '96 was the last year for the Nissan 300-ZX)"

About bball
"I created this image entirely in Raydream Designer 3.0 (with the exception of the lens flares). It was for an ad we placed in the UCLA basketball program. I used a Mac IIci at the time with 12megs of RAM (It took nearly a week to render the image for a full page magazine ad)."

About bball
"I created this image entirely in Raydream Designer 3.0 (with the exception of the clouds). It was for an ad we placed in the UCLA football program. I used a Mac IIci at the time with 12megs of RAM (It took nearly a week to render the image for a full page magazine ad)."

About Pyramid
"I created this image by importing a Raydream Designer Studio 4.0 dxf file (the logo) into Bryce 2.0 where it was encased in an icy pyramid. It was for an ad we placed on the back of a magazine. You can do amazing things with these programs combined"

Marbles (113K JPG)
Oops (104K JPG)
Beast (91K JPG)
Dog Walk (102K JPG)

(On Marbles) "I wanted to create a simple image of the spheres and checkerboard type. Whilst creating the tils I decided to change it to a more realistic and simple still life image. The marbles made a simple and easy to model subject ( also takes me back a few more years than I care to remember ;-) ). The purpose of the image is to try and show that, whilst it is nice to model complex subjects and scenes, you can generate pleasing pictures in the early stages of learning how to get to grips with a package."

(On Oops) "... the picture started off as an attempt to design a teddy bear from simple shapes. As I added more I thought of adding a little bit of humour and along with that I used the DXF import feature to incorporate the blob file. Even though the picture could still be improved (I forgot to rotate the side wall 180deg and so it shows different width stripes from the back wall, from which it was duplicated), I'm very pleased with the picture, which is now my desktop."

(On Beast) "After spending some time playing with the modeller I decided to try something of a challenge, the dragon's head. This took quite a bit of time to get right and I decided to incorporate it into a 3-headed beast. The only difference between each head is the tongue which was remodelled. The sorcerer is made up of three simple extrusions (hood, arms and cloak) and the skeletal hands. The skeletal hands are actually claws I modelled for another image. The lighting is achieved via two lights, a bulb light immediately above the orb to enhance the foreground and a spolight on the background planet. The stars were added later in Picture Publisher."

Design Voodoo (32K JPG)

This image, titled "Design Voodoo", was created as one of several self-promotional postcards. It was created solely in Designer, with minor touch-up in Photoshop.

The copy printed on the reverse side said,"It's like walking on white hot pins and needles. Sweating .44 magnum bullets. Having your brain disassembled, then reassembled upside-down and backwards. Being uncontrollably sucked, like a lifeless doll, in a vortex of chaos and despair. I call it DESIGN VOODOO. Others call it the software learning curve."
